(Aug. 30) -- There is no "special treatment" for an E. coli infection, according to the FamilyDoctor.org. Physicians recommend resting and drinking plenty of water to flush the system of unwanted bacteria. Unless your doctor instructs you to do so, it is not advisable to consume antidiarrheal medication, which instead of treating the infection will actually delay the process of removing bacteria from the intestines.
