(Aug. 30) -- The symptoms associated with an infection of Escherichia coli, better known by its abbreviation, E. coli, include bloody diarrhea, dehydration and, in severe cases, kidney failure, according to the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service. Other cases have reported abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The bacterium is most threatening to people with weak immune systems, such is infants and the elderly.
Individuals who believe that they are infected with E. coli are advised to contact a health care professional.
