Troy Polamalu hairTroy Polamalu is most famously known for his legion of luxurious locks. More so than any other professional athlete. Only Tim Tebow's monkish-do had the power to supplant Polamalu as the NFL's most curious hairstyle. But since Tebow has since paid his rookie dues, Polamalu once again regains the title as professional athlete most likely to wind up on Hair Ideas magazine.

Which is why it may not come as much of a surprise to find out that Head and Shoulders has insured Polamalu's hair for $1 million. It was bound to happen, right?

Head and Shoulders insured his locks through the famed British insurance firm Lloyd's of London. You may wonder why Head and Shoulders would bother to insure the All-Pro safety's hair. Well, for one he's sponsored by the shampoo brand. And, secondly, well... why don't we go to the tape.

Oh no he didn't!

You also may wonder how common it is for a professional athlete to insure a body part. Honestly, it's a little more common than you would think. Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham reportedly had his legs insured for $78 million back in 2006, while Real Madrid insured Cristiano Ronaldo's "lower body" for $153 million. Even Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain insured his pitching arm for $5 million.

Then again, ESPN's Peter Keating spoke with an insurance underwriter who denied competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi's arthritic jaw. Score another win for Joey Chestnut. USA! USA! USA!
