(Sept. 1) -- James J. Lee, the man believed to be the gunman holding one person hostage at the headquarters of Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md., has allegedly called for the end of human procreation as a means of solving the world's environmental problems. That was the main idea among other violent and bizarre statements published in an online manifesto entitled "My Demands," which was previously available at www.savetheplanetprotest.com (Google Cache). Here's a sample:

"All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions."
Lee demands that television shows about babies and birthing be replaced by shows "encouraging human sterilization and infertility." TLC, which is owned by Discovery Communications, has a show called "Baby Block" and another one, "19 Kids and Counting," about a couple that has 19 children, among other shows about babies and families.

But sterilization is not enough for Lee. He also calls for saving the planet by decreasing the human population.

"Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive [sic] creatures around and are wrecking what's left of the planet with their false morals and breeding culture," he writes.
The first line of the rant mentions Daniel Quinn's book "My Ishmael," an environmental treatise written through conversations between a gorilla and a human. Lee demands the Discovery Channel add prime-time shows based on the book and even suggests a "game show format."

A MySpace page for a man named "Lee" from Silver Spring, Md. lists "My Ishmael," "Ishmael" and "The Story of B" as favorite books. Favorite movies include "Planet of the Apes," and under "Children" the user has written "I don't want kids." The page also points people to savetheplanetprotest.com where the manifesto was posted.

The single pacifistic demand Lee makes in the online rant is for Discovery to stop promoting programs about war and weapons. He also calls for the end of war -- not because it's morally wrong, but because of the environmental damage it causes. One possible solution he suggests: fewer babies.

"MORE HUMANS EQUALS MORE WAR!" he writes.

The Discovery Channel day care center was successfully evacuated and the approximately 100 kids are reported to be safe, according to D.C. metro area television station TBD.

The rant concludes with "These are the demands and sayings of Lee."
