A deal for WBO junior welterweight (140 pounds) titlist Tim Bradley to face WBC and IBF counterpart Devon Alexander is close, according to Gary Shaw, Bradley's promoter, and Kevin Cunningham, Alexander's manager and trainer. The fight would take place Jan. 29 and be televised by HBO.

Shaw and Don King, Alexander's promoter, have agreed in principle and will present the terms to their respective fighters.

"We're very close to consummating our deal," said Shaw. "Bradley's attorney, Mike Miller, is talking to my attorney, Leon Margolis, and I believe that we're coming close to a deal."

Cunningham said that Alexander's conversations with King also went well.

"I heard that things were good on Bradley's side," said Cunningham. "Don and I are going to do some more talking tomorrow, but I think that this fight is going to get done though."

The fight would match the 26-year-old Bradley (26-0, 11 knockouts), of Palm Springs, Calif., against the 23-year-old Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs) of St. Louis, Mo., in a clash between two of the division's three champions in what is boxing's deepest and most talented division.

WBA king Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) of England and WBA interim titlist Marcos Rene Maidana (29-1, 27 KOs) are in talks with their promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, for a potential match up on Dec. 11 in the United Kingdom.

Bradley, of Palm Springs, Calif., is coming off of last month's HBO-televised unanimous decision over welterweight (147 pounds) Carlos Luis Abregu (29-1, 23 KOs) of Salta Salta, Argentina, in a non-title bout before his hometown fans at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Alexander (right) is coming off of an Aug. 7 unanimous decision victory over former WBA king Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KOs) that drew some 10,000 to the Scottrade Center, where Cunningham would prefer to face Bradley.
