Add another name to the list of pitchers likely to miss the 2011 season. Rockies reliever Manny Corpas will undergo Tommy John surgery next Wednesday, the team announced. The usual recovery time for the procedure is 12-18 months, so unless Corpas is especially speedy in his rehab process, it seems unlikely he'll see the field for Colorado next year.
Corpas has battled elbow trouble all year and went on the disabled list last week after walking off the mound in pain during a relief appearance against the Braves. His 2009 season also came to an end early, as he had surgery last July to have bone spurs removed from the same elbow.
Corpas appeared in 56 games for the Rockies this season, his fifth in the majors. He went 3-5 with 10 saves and a 4.62 ERA but saw his walk rate shoot up to 3.2 batters per nine innings, easily a career high.
He's under contract for $3.5 million next season and the Rockies have club options on him for 2012 and 2013.
The Rockies on Tuesday acquired reliever Manny Delcarmen from the Red Sox to help out during the stretch run, but the severity of Corpas' injury leaves a void for 2011.
