Video: Bob Bradley Speaks About New Contract, Smiles
The interview took fewer than four minutes but was about as substantive as his hour-long conference call with reporters on Tuesday. TV doesn't look kindly on rambling answers full of run-on sentences and tangents (Soccer America's Paul Gardner put it brilliantly -- "Bradley rarely answers a question, he simply takes it and slowly nibbles it to death."), and Bradley was far more interesting when he got to the point.
For those who wanted Bradley gone, who think the U.S. should challenging for a World Cup title, he had this to say when asked where the U.S. should be finishing:
"We are in that second tier of soccer nations. Everyone is trying to break into the top tier with Brazil and Argentina, Spain and others. We've shown that we're on occasion able to beat those teams. But to do it now in an event like the World Cup has got to be one of the next steps for us."
He also reiterated that he had no offers in Europe.
"I had no opportunities at this point. The timing is difficult," because the World Cup ends so close to the start of the European season, he said. "I had discussions that gave me hope that in the future, there would be good possibilities."
The whole interview is below, and ends with a nice exchange regarding Landon Donovan's goal against Algeria. Bradley even smiles. Watch for it.
