NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez on Friday confirmed his split with agent Scott Boras."Scott and I had a good run," Rodriguez said before the Yankees faced the Blue Jays. "Nothing drastic happened. ... Some of the things I needed 20 years ago I really don't need now."
Multiple outlets this week reported that Rodriguez had fired Boras, who had negotiated A-Rod's two record contracts.
But with Rodriguez presumably on his last deal -- he will be 42 when the current one expires after the 2017 season -- he may not need a true baseball agent ever again. And Boras will still collect the commission on this contract, which is worth at least $275 million.
"I'm not going to get into any details," said Rodriguez, who had a temporary disconnect with Boras in the 2007-08 offseason after word leaked during the World Series that Rodriguez was opting out of his last deal.
Rodriguez, out with a sore left calf, is eligible to come off the disabled list on Sunday. He took batting practice Friday and did some baserunning but hedged on whether he will be able to play Sunday.
"I'm going to wait and see," he said. "Today was a good day. Tomorrow's a big test.
"I'm hoping [to return] Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. One of those days I'd definitely like to be ready."
Rodriguez said he will bat against Andy Pettitte on Saturday when Pettitte throws a simulated game (he is out with a groin strain) and also do more aggressive baserunning.
"I just want to make sure we cover everything before I get back out there," said Rodriguez, who missed three games before coming back too soon on Aug. 20 and lasting just one plate appearance.
"I would say I'm getting much healthier. ... I don't want to over-promise and under-deliver. Sunday's a possibility, no question."
