Falcons All the Way? Maybe Not

The NFL.com experts have weighed in with their predictions for the 2010 season and four of the seven pick the Falcons to win the NFC South.

Not me.

I am one of those guys who want to see the money first. I didn't see the money. Cornerback Dunta Robinson, the big free agent signee, was injured this preseason.

Can he play? Not sure. Is he the guy that this squad desperately needs to fix its secondary? Not sure.

I'm also looking at the early schedule. The Falcons can win at Pittsburgh in the opener, but then they play Arizona, New Orleans, and the 49ers.
Let me revise. Atlanta can win in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers have a lot of things going on besides the quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger, after all, is way down the list in productivity.

The Falcons start a new cornerback and essentially a rookie tackle, Peria Jerry, because he was injured early in 2009. They may start a rookie linebacker, Sean Weatherspoon.

What does defensive end John Abraham have left?

Defensive end Kroy Biermann does a fine job getting after the quarterback, but the Falcons obviously have a problem with him in run defense, so he is third string.

The offense will hum along, but not a big buyer yet. I think they can be good, but I'm hedging.

The Packers and Cowboys seem to be the big favorites in the NFC, but the Saints are still loaded on offense and I think Reggie Bush is going be more of a combo back.

The only reason to doubt the Saints is how the injuries have stacked up this preseason. Darren Sharper, the free safety who made things dangerous with his steals, could be out the first six weeks. Now linebackers Jonathan Casillas and Jon Vilma are nicked up. The run defense wasn't too sharp in the preseason.

The Cowboys? You people really think Tony Romo is a championship quarterback?

I can see the Packers-Saints in the NFC final. Last one with the ball wins.
