The Saints have to get down to 53 players by 6 p.m. Saturday. It will be tough to get a handle on it with so many question marks because of injuries.

No team in the NFC South has as many issues as the Saints. What do you do with Darren Sharper, the free safety, coming off knee surgery? He might not be ready to play against the Vikings, but do you add him and play with only 52? Put him on the inactive list.

Do the Saints cut one of their valuable players from the Super Bowl champion? It happens.

The Saints new weapon at tight end, Jimmy Graham, has a high ankle sprain. That is an injury that can linger and can affect roster moves.

Starting weakside linebacker Jonathan Casillas has a foot injury. Cornerback Tracy Porter has a knee issue.

The big deal is Sharper. The New Orleans Times-Picayune said Friday that Sharper still hopes to play in the opener against the Vikings. He hasn't played all preseason.

"The key is making the right decisions here in the next 24, 48 hours,'' Payton said.
