Albert Haynesworth's dud performance in the Redskins preseason finale may have earned him a seat on the bench in the Redskins season opener, further suggesting the Haynesworth-Redskins drama isn't done yet, according to a report from The Washington Post.In last Thursday's preseason battle with the Cardinals in Arizona, Haynesworth, a former Pro Bowler, recorded four tackles. At times though he looked lost in the Redskins' new 3-4 defensive scheme, according to sources from The Post. One source described Haynesworth as "awful."
During Saturday's practice, Haynesworth was moved back to nose tackle and removed from the nickel package. The sources said that Washington coach Mike Shanahan is fed up with Haynesworth.
In the last several months, the Redskins' $100 million defensive tackle has gotten under his coaches' skin. Initially, he refused to play in the team's new 3-4 defense, but settled on a bonus back in April. Haynesworth couldn't pass a conditioning test until the 10th day of minicamp and he took off a week from camp due to rhabdomyolsis, a muscle tissue breakdown condition. Shanahan told FanHouse last month, "the days of him [Haynesworth] playing without practicing are over."
Regardless of Hayneworth's shenanigans, the team could really use the Albert of old. The Redskins were 29th in the league last season in rush defense, giving up 131.2 rushing yards per game.
The Redskins have not officially made a statement regarding Haynesworth's playing status.
