ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Ravens have come to an agreement with ex-Seahawk wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh on a one-year, $855,000 deal. For fantasy purposes, Houshmanzadeh's stock just took a huge hit.
If you think about it, Housh's value plummeted the minute the Seawhawks cut ties with him. As the de facto numero uno in Seattle's aerial "attack", you could at least bank on the targets. Outside of Seattle, you could probably count on one hand the number of teams where he would potentially play the the same role.
We know for sure he won't be featured in the Ravens offense, where Joe Flacco already has two sure-handed, possession-receiver types in Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason. Throw in Todd Heap and Ray Rice's contributions in the passing game, and Housh is the fourth or fifth option at best. Put simply, there just isn't enough pigskin to go around.
Even if you're banking on an injury to Boldin or Mason, Housh's upside is virtually non-existent (just like it was in Seattle); he's averaged 10.6 yards per catch with two different offenses the past two seasons. Don't count on anything close to a repeat of last season's disappointing line (79-911-3) or his PPR-friendly production from 2008 (92-904-4).
All in all, I'm scratching his name off of my 12-team cheat sheets. In PPR formats, he becomes nothing more than a blah WR4/5. You're better off targeting guys like Jacoby Jones or Legedu Naanee when looking to fill out your bench. At least their situations carry promise.
