Donning a multicolored aboriginal-themed swimsuit dress as she took the stage during the competition, Campbell says she discovered that someone had sabotaged her outfit, inserting several pins in sensitive areas, the Herald Sun reports. (Using somewhat saltier language, readers be warned!)
"I put it on just before I was due to go out on parade but I felt these sharp pains when something stuck into my back," Campbell told the Herald Sun. "I took the top off and found all these pins had been stuck into it. I didn't have any injuries or marks, but I didn't have much time to take them out and get it back on because I had to be out there."
Campbell did not say whether the saboteur was another contestant or someone affiliated with one of her competitors. The dress, however, seemed to give her problems even before the sudden appearance of the pins, with critics blasting it as a fashion "travesty" and a "national joke."
Campbell wasn't the only contestant whose taste was questioned during the "national dress" portion of the evening. Miss USA Rima Fakih also raised eyebrows with her splashy Victoria's Secret/presidential seal hybrid.
