English soccer star Wayne Rooney cheated on his pregnant wife with a high-priced prostitute, London tabloid News of the World reports. Rooney reportedly met with prostitute Jenny Thompson, 21, over the course of several months, a tryst that went against the striker's family-man image. "Wayne certainly enjoyed all our meetings and didn't seem to care what he was doing to his wife," Thompson told the tabloid.
Despite allegations published over the weekend, English soccer officials rallied around Rooney. Fabio Capello, manager of England's national team, said he wasn't worried about the tabloid headlines as he readied for Tuesday's European Championship qualifier against Switzerland.
"You have to separate, to divide at different moments the private life and the job," Capello told The Daily Mail. "You have to be strong to divide the two. My job is the second part. The other part is his problem."
Capello said he recently spoke to Rooney about the stir the reports of his infidelity have caused. Steven Gerrard, England's captain, said getting back on the field could be therapeutic for Rooney.
"If you have an issue off the pitch, you have to park it," Gerrard told The Daily Mail. "But sometimes football can be a release from it."
The news of Rooney's alleged affair comes weeks after Italian soccer stars were rocked by their own sex scandal.
