49ers Rookie Linemen Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati to Debut at Earsplitting Levels

You know how it is for rookie linemen in the NFL.

For many, they come out of college, they get beat upon during their first year or two learning the intricacies of the league, then in about the third year they're good to go.

Not in San Francisco. Not this year. Not when they used first-round draft picks to add right tackle Anthony Davis and left guard Mike Iupati to the roster.

The two have been thrown into the fire from the start of training camp, and they will be areas of focus Sunday when the 49ers open the season at Seattle, braving Qwest Field's wall of sound.

Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye has the same words for the rookies as he has for the 49er veterans.

"Keep your poise in the noise,'' he said.

That's because screaming fans are a staple here -- the 12th man theme has been part of the organization since the start -- and it's simply tough for opposing offenses to hear themselves think. In the last four seasons, visitors have been called for 95 false starts in 40 games at Qwest, the most in the NFL.

Because of that, the 49ers are cranking up their speakers to near airplane-takeoff level to get the players used to what awaits.

"We can't create the noise that they will have,'' 49ers coach Mike Singletary told CSNBayArea.com. "I think it's really important for us to make sure that we go up there with the thought process in mind to make sure we keep it simple and make sure we can execute the plays that we go there with, and I think we'll be OK.''

Elsewhere on the line, David Baas takes over at center with Eric Heitmann injured, and Baas is the man responsible for making the line calls and adjustments.

"It's a loud stadium. I understand that,'' Baas said. ``We got to echo the calls down the line as best we can. We got to be ready for it. You pretty much yell as loud as you can, and the guy next to you echoes it to the next guy."
