Apparently, lots of people were ready for some football, college variety, Monday night, as the Boise-State-Virginia Tech clash set ratings records for ESPN, the channel reports.The Labor Day telecast averaged 7,252,000 households, making it ESPN's most-watched college football game, including bowl games, among households in the channel's 31-year-old history.
In terms of actual bodies, the 9,888,000 viewers makes the game the second most-watched game among total viewers in ESPN history, trailing the 2009 game between USC and Ohio State.
In addition, the game, which drew a 7.3 rating, was the highest-rated ESPN college football game since the Miami-Florida State game, played October 8, 1994, drew a 7.7 rating. The Boise State-Virginia Tech game was the most-watched program on any channel -- cable or broadcast -- all day Monday, among households, total viewers and in key demographics.
