FanHouse's college football staff provides you with a personal quarterback. We do the primary and secondary reads for you so you can properly start your day. 1. Say what you want about Terrelle Pryor -- who is quickly becoming one of college football's most polarizing players -- but he definitely is not afraid to stray from popular opinion. Take his stand for Michael Vick last season, for example. Next up, he's defending LeBron James to the Buckeye faithful, many of whom are Cleveland Cavaliers fans -- you know, the group who feels betrayed and now loaths "King" James?
Pryor has exchanged messages with the self-proclaimed King and believes Mr. James will be in attendance when the Buckeyes take on Miami on Saturday. And he's got the man who is taking his talents to South Beach's back.
"If LeBron does come, just treat him with respect and respect his decision," Pryor told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Please, no name calling or booing or anything like that. Please. That's my mentor, and I've got a lot of respect for him and a lot of love for him."
Pryor went on to say James is "a Buckeye."
Basically, either Pryor thinks LeBron went to Ohio State or every single person from Ohio is a Buckeye. So Charles Woodson is a Buckeye?
2. One loss to an FCS team in one game on the job, and Kansas' Turner Gill is already changing quarterbacks. Redshirt frosh Jordan Webb takes the reins for the Jayhawks from sophomore Kale Pick. Gill doesn't view the move as one of panic, just that it will give his team the best chance to win. Still, it's going to be quite an uphill battle as it faces No. 15 Georgia Tech Saturday -- probably a bit better team than North Dakota State.
3. Great move by the Texas Longhorns, as they will feature a red, white and blue ribbon sticker on their helmets Saturday. It's the nine-year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, so hopefully there will be a litany of teams doing something to honor our great country and mourn the many precious lives lost that day.
4. The always-wonderful Wiz of Odds examines the possibility we'll start seeing teams with a 5-7 record in bowl games. Frankly, 35 bowl games is just absurd. There is no reason on this planet for 70 of 120 FBS schools to be playing in bowl games. It really devalues the entire process.
5. Here's a really cool story of a 5-foot-9 safety for San Diego State, Darryn Lewis, who started his freshman year in the student section before trying out as a walk-on. He's now a starter and he earned the nickname "Mighty Mouse." Sometimes it becomes pretty easy to focus on all the negatives out there with college athletes getting arrested, sporting a sense of entitlement or spouting off at the mouth, but stories like these are a reminder that the overwhelming majority of the players we see on Saturdays are good kids. So let Lewis be a reminder that we can focus on the positive and continue to enjoy the great sport. Especially this Saturday -- man, there are a ton of great games for Week 2.
