Lew Perkins' hasty exit as athletic director at Kansas had nothing to do with a federal investigation into a ticket scam, the school's chancellor said Thursday.Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said Perkins' decision to retire immediately was not connected to a report that found that five athletic department employees and a consultant sold or used nearly 20,000 football and men's basketball tickets, as well as a number of passes and parking passes, for personal reasons at a value estimated between $1-3 million. None of the employees currently work at the school.
Perkins was originally due to retire next September. Instead, he retired Tuesday, three days after the Jayhawks football team lost its opener to North Dakota State, a Football Championship Subdivision team, 6-3 at Lawrence, ruining coach Turner Gill's debut.
