(Sept. 10) -- It seems that the DHARMA Initiative has infiltrated ABC News.

ABC News' Bay Area affiliate, KGO-TV, is covering the San Bruno, Calif., explosion with a breaking-news photo collage that features, among other images, a television still from an episode of the popular drama "Lost."

The photograph of a burning van featured in the top right corner of the KGO-TV photo-spread seems to be identical to an image of a smoldering van from the Emmy-winning series that has been posted on "Lost" fan websites like TV Fanatic.

This photo on the website of KGO, an ABC West Coast affiliate, shows a burning van that looks very much like one shown on the hit show "Lost."

The burning van appears in an episode when a young Ben needs Sayid's help to escape DHARMA and get to the Others. Sayid's plan is to trick Ben into thinking he's helping him escape, and then kill him. Young Ben sends this flaming van careening into a house to create a diversion, and then frees Sayid.
The image appears to have been uploaded to KGO-TV by a Web visitor as part of the station's uReport initiative.

The user's prank seems to have been "lost" on the news website, which includes no mention of the image as a television still.

According to Twitter user wil_m, the "Lost" photo was likely lifted from a Fark.com thread about the explosions.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when at first we fail to vet our images.
