Dolphins Coach Tony Sparano Becoming Twitter-Aware
He still hasn't declared who the backup quarterback behind Chad Henne will be, although veteran Chad Pennington has been taking most of the snaps with the second team, and when asked whether or not inside linebacker Channing Crowder (groin) or left tackle Jake Long (knee) will play this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium, he simply said, "We'll see."
The reasoning behind this approach, Sparano explained, is because of the incredible free flow of information that goes on today via the Internet, radio, television and just about every other communication device. While he does not yet have a Twitter account, and doesn't plan on having one, he is familiar with it as well as other social media like Facebook.
"With the way people can get information nowadays it's just too easy, and it really can hurt you. I mean it really can," Sparano said. "Something as simple as maybe something said that is taken out of context one way or the other can hurt you in the locker room.
"It can be an issue. ... I'm a computer dope, and sometimes I can get on the computer and find somebody saying something that they probably shouldn't be saying. If I can do that, some of these guys that are pretty sharp can maybe get a little more insight than you would want them to have."
He confirmed that he reads every Tweet and every blog and every story about his team and about his players every day so that he knows what's being said out there. In fact, he even revealed that he was aware of some bulletin board material that was Tweeted yesterday by Bills safety Donte Whitner.
Try to imagine Vince Lombardi having to even say the word "Twitter" and you have an idea what Sparano's face looked like.
