Shannon Sharpe to Step Down Temporarily From 'NFL Today'
As first reported by Sports by Brooks, Sharpe, who played on Super Bowl winning teams in Denver and Baltimore, issued a statement through the network, saying, "I have decided to step away from 'The NFL Today,' until this matter is resolved. In response, the network issued a statement: "We accept Shannon's decision and decline to comment further on a pending legal matter."
Sharpe, who appeared on Sunday's season premiere but did not comment on the matter, is accused in the temporary restraining order with forcing Michele Bundy to have sex with him, of making multiple threats against her and of stalking her.
The restraining order, which was issued last Friday, bars Sharpe from coming within 200 yards of Bundy or her immediate family or from making contact with her or her family. The Fulton County (Ga.) judge who issued the order also granted temporary custody of an unidentified child to Bundy.
A hearing on the order is scheduled for Monday.
