Need help navigating the waiver wire each week? Let the Pickup Artist be your guide
.

Ryan Kalish (OF, BOS) - 4% owned
Kalish has been a top-20 outfielder over the last two weeks, putting together a friendly 5X5 of .275-2-12-7-3. He's been playing virtually every day for the BoSox, driving in 14 runs in 14 September contests. Any questions?

Wilson Betemit
(3B, KC) -
11%
Doesn't it seem like I've been plugging Betemit every week? Maybe that's because I have. Hitting .333-2-10-8-0 over the last couple weeks, and .315/.395/.546 this season, it's about time we give this third baseman his due.

Dan Johnson (1B, TB) - 1%
All Dan Johnson does is hit homers. He hit 25 at Triple-A last season, 30 at Triple-A in 2010, and he's hit three long balls in his last three games. He's also upped his batting average about 65 points since the beginning of September. Luck hasn't exactly been on his side this season (.204 BABIP), he's been hitting cleanup in recent days, and he's an on-base machine. There's a lot to like here in deeper setups; why not take the plunge?

Jack Cust (OF, OAK) - 6%
Cust isn't flashing the power we've become accustomed to the last few years, but if the trade-off is a solid batting average, we'll take it. Over his last 13 games, Cust is hitting .343 with a couple of homers and eight RBI. He has an .865 OPS this season. You could do worse than filling one of your last outfield spots with a late-September hot streak.

Melvin Mora (1B/2B/3B, COL) - 2%
Multi-positional eligibility, a .360 average over the last month, a homer and eight RBI over his last three contests. Toss in eight starts in the Rockies' last nine games and Mora looks like a great short-term add.

Chris Narveson (SP/RP, MIL) - 12%
Narveson's been a revelation over the last couple months, striking out 30 while walking just eight over his last 26 1/3 innings. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start since July 23.

J.J. Hardy (SS, MIN) - 14%
Hardy hasn't hit for much power lately, but he has hit .309 with 11 runs scored and 13 RBI over the last month and clocks in as the seventh-ranked shortstop over the last 14 days (.343-1-8-7-0).

Carlos Gomez (OF, MIL) - 3%
Looking to close a small gap in stolen bases? Consider Gomez, who's swiped five in his last six games. He's also hitting .364 in 22 September at-bats.

James McDonald (SP, PIT) - 4%
McDonald's allowed five earned runs in his last four starts and has fanned six or more batters in six of his last nine turns. Oh, and he'll face Houston this week. This add's an easy one.

Orlando Cabrera (SS, CIN) - 32%
Cabrera may not be the Reds' best real-life option at shortstop (that would be Paul Janish), but you can't argue with what O-Cab's done since returning from the DL in early September: .326/.354/.546 in 46 AB.

Jhoulys Chacin (SP, COL) - 27%
Chacin's yielded just four earned runs in his last six turns (0.95 ERA, 1.16 WHIP). He'll get San Fran and L.A. -- a team he shutout for eight innings on Saturday -- for his final two starts.

Ryan Spilborghs (OF, COL) - 1%
Spilly's power has been non-existent (no homers since August 29), and playing time hasn't been steady, but deep leaguers would be hard-pressed to find a hotter (15-for-31 over the last two weeks), more available option on the wire right now.

Evan Meek (RP, PIT) - 19%
Pittsburgh skipper John Russell has publicly stated that Evan Meek will get some save opportunities down the stretch. So there's that.

Robert Andino
(SS, BAL) -
0%
Andino's gone 8-for-26 since his call-up earlier this month, he's homered in two straight, and he's hit 13 homers in two of his last three minor league seasons. Power at the shortstop position is always a rare find. Power among AL-only shortstops? No such thing. Andino's got value.

Joe Blanton (SP, PHI) - 28%
Blanton's been great of late, sporting a 3.14 ERA and 42/11 strikeout-to-walk split over his last 48 2/3 innings (eight starts). He'll close things out against the Mets and Braves.

Xavier Nady (1B/OF, CHC)
- 5%
Nady's 11-for-28 (.393) with a homer, four RBI, and six runs scored during a seven-game hitting streak. Ride the hot hand.

Juan Rivera (OF, LAA) - 24%
Rivera's having a down year by his standards, but he's getting hot at the right time (for fantasy owners, at least). He's 7-for-12 with a homer and six RBI over his last four.

John Lannan (SP, WAS) - 2%
Keeping the ball on the ground and limiting free passes are his true forte, but remarkably, he's whiffed 19 over his last 19 2/3 innings. The result? A sub-3.50 FIP and xFIP since the beginning of August. Houston and Atlanta are on tap for the 25-year-old southpaw.
