A plea to restaurants and bars everywhere: please, in the name of irony, don't name an alcoholic drink after John Daly. He doesn't find it amusing. In fact, the guy once arrested for public drunkenness after a night at Hooters, not only doesn't see the humor in it, he has enlisted the help of his Twitter followers to out any establishment in violation of his wishes.
"For all my fans out there hittin the bars & events I'm lookin for your help--ANY PRINTED MENUS, BANNERS OR ADS promoting the 'John Daly' drink--Can you please bring to my attention with a pic and/or a tweet of the bar location & brand of sweet tea! Thanks for lookin out!"According to GolfDigest.com's John Strege, Daly first heard about the drink that bears his name on Monday from a Twitter follower. A Minneapolis restaurant featured a "John Daly" on its menu, apparently made with Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka and their "own muddled lemonade!" Okay.
More via Strege:
A new chain of restaurants in Southern California, the Lazy Dog Cafe, offers on its drink menu the "John Daily," featuring Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka and fresh pink lemonade, "giving this refreshing cocktail a bad boy bite," the menu states.Just a hunch, but I'm betting this has nothing to do with Daly's stance against alcohol abuse and everything to do with establishments using his name without paying for it. I can appreciate that, but I appreciate the irony of the situation even more.
