On the day Charles Rogers signed his rookie contract with the Detroit Lions, he was handed a $9.1 million signing bonus and was seemingly set for life.

At least, he would have been set for life if he had lived his life responsibly. Instead, Rogers repeatedly failed drug tests and was bounced out of the league after playing in just 15 games over three seasons.

And now he's broke.

According to a notice published in the Detroit Legal News (via the Detroit Free Press), Rogers defaulted on a $1.04-million mortgage and owes $1.17 million on his suburban mansion, which will be foreclosed on next month.

It's sad what has become of Rogers' life, but hardly surprising. Rogers has been arrested multiple times, was always lazy during his playing career, and never seemed particularly interested in making the most of his tremendous athletic gifts.
