Sandy BrondelloThe San Antonio Silver Stars made the playoffs in the WNBA's Western Conference, but it wasn't enough to save coach Sandy Brondello's job.

Brondello was fired one season after being hired in February. San Antonio finished the season with a 14-20 record. The Silver Stars finished with the third-best record in the conference, but fell in the first round of the playoffs.

Brondello was let go along with her husband Olaf Lange, who served as the team's associate head coach. Brondello had been part of the Silver Stars organization since 2004.

"It is always difficult to make a coaching change," said RC Buford, the president of sports franchises for Spurs Sports and Entertainment. "In this case, it is especially difficult as Sandy and Olaf are both wonderful people."

Buford and SIlver Stars general manager Dan Hughes will conduct the search for a new head coach.

The Silver Stars were inconsistent most of the season, even after adding standout forward Chamique Holdsclaw to the roster. San Antonio never managed to win more than two games in a row all season. Holdsclaw was injured near the end of the regular season and was not available for the Stars' fourth straight trip to the playoffs.
