UFL Quarterbacks: High Value, Low Price

What kind of value is the United Football League getting in its five starting quarterbacks?

More than that of some National Football League teams, apparently.

The salary for a starting quarterback in the UFL is $200,000. What has the UFL gotten so far for that investment? Try three 300-yard passing games, a trio of three-touchdown-pass games and two last-second comebacks for the ages in front of crowds of 20,000 or better.

Here are the statistics for each of the UFL's five starting quarterbacks after two weeks of play:

NAME, TEAM GAMES CMP-ATT PCT. YARDS TD-INT RATING
Josh McCown, Hartford 2 33-46 71.7 529 5-0 146.0
Jeff Garcia, Omaha 1 23-40 57.5 226 3-0 98.5
Brooks Bollinger, Florida 2 46-81 56.8 636 3-2 84.2
Daunte Culpepper, Sacramento 2 47-82 57.3 548 4-2 83.8
Tim Rattay, Las Vegas 1 23-38 60.5 183 1-2 59.4

In an era of professional football where teams are over-paying and the quarterbacks are under-delivering, it's refreshing to see the exact opposite taking place in the UFL.

NOTES: Only six quarterbacks currently in the NFL have thrown for more yards than either Garcia (25,537) or Culpepper (24,153). There is no matchup in professional football this weekend featuring quarterbacks with more career passing yards.
