The U.S. Ryder Cup squad got off to a slow start in the opening action in Wales, falling behind early to a European team loaded with talent.

But that changed in the last group of the early session, as Ryder Cup rookies Jeff Overton and Bubba Watson took the first hole against Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington when Overton holed an improbable putt from well off the green.

It was an interesting choice for Overton to use the putter, given the battering of rain the course has taken and the difficulty in reading such soggy greens. But the rookie proved his worth, giving the U.S. its first lead of the day and starting the pair's first Ryder Cup action with some excitement.
