ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Joe Maddon on Thursday was ejected from Game 2 of the Rays-Rangers American League Division Series.

With Texas up 2-0 in the fifth inning, Maddon brought in Chad Qualls to face Michael Young with two on and one out. On a 2-2 pitch, home-plate umpire Jim Wolf ruled Young checked his swing, and an appeal to first-base umpire Jerry Meals was denied.

On the next pitch, Young crushed a 431-foot homer to dead center to make the score 5-0.

Maddon went to the mound to remove Qualls. But instead of immediately signaling for Randy Choate, Maddon waited for Wolf to come to the mound and force him to make the move.

That gave Maddon a chance to chew out Wolf for the non-call on Young, and Wolf immediately ejected Maddon (who left Qualls in the game).

It was the sixth ejection this year for Maddon.
