According to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones was handcuffed and detained by police following an accident near Great American Ball Park on Sunday night. Jones was reportedly released without being arrested or charged with a crime.

Police told the Enquirer that Jones was handcuffed after he drove a silver Jaguar onto the sidewalk near the ballpark. The accident reportedly occurred about 90 minutes after the Bengals' 24-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A witness told the Enquirer that Jones swerved to avoid hitting the car in front of his and drove his vehicle over the curb. According to police, there was an outstanding warrant on the car's license plates.

While police said that Jones was allowed to leave the scene after briefly being questioned, Jones' agent, Thomas Hunter, offered quite a different story to ProFootballTalk.com. Hunter told the website that Jones was mistaken for another man, arrested and remained in handcuffs for 45 minutes before being driven from the scene in a police cruiser.

According to Hunter's account of what happened, police found an outstanding felony warrant for "Adam Jones" and handcuffed his client before checking to see if it was the same person. Hunter said Jones argued but the police weren't hearing any of it. Jones was released two blocks later after police acknowledged the error, according to Hunter's account.

"It was a stupid thing that deprived him of his liberty and embarrassed him and humiliated him in front of everybody," Hunter told ProFootballTalk.com. "Everybody saw him being arrested."

Bengals team spokesman Jack Brennan refused to comment on the incident, citing that the Bengals' policy is to not discuss ongoing legal matters involving their players.

Jones has had his share of trouble with the law over the years, including being involved in a Las Vegas strip club shooting back in February 2007. He previously had been suspended by Roger Goodell for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

So far this season for the Bengals, Jones has eight tackles and one interception.
