Sunday's flight was the first manned test flight of the Enterprise, which was flown by Pete Siebold and Mike Alsbury. The aircraft was carried to 45,000 feet by its mother ship, VMS Eve, then dropped from its hold to glide back down to the landing strip in the Mojave Desert.
"The VSS Enterprise was a real joy to fly, especially when one considers the fact that the vehicle has been designed not only to be a Mach 3.5 spaceship capable of going into space but also one of the world's highest-altitude gliders," Siebold said in a statement.
Once operational, the Enterprise will carry two crew members and six passengers. When released from the VMS Eve, it will fire a rocket engine to blast into space.
