Holy Swimming Pool, Batman!
Batman fans know quite well that when Gotham City is in trouble, the police flash the Bat Signal into the sky -- a cry for help, when Penguin or the Joker are on the loose.
So what should the Dark Knight's fans make of the latest Google Maps sensation: A satellite image of a backyard swimming pool in suburban Illinois with the Caped Crusader's famed logo.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a Hinsdale, Ill., couple's property appears to be reaching out to the famous fictional crime fighter by blazing his well-known signal into the sky.
But this particular bat logo has been there for a while. The homeowners, who -- like the Dark Knight's secret identity -- are staying anonymous, painted the 30-foot-wide Batman emblem at the bottom of the pool 20 years ago for their young son, a cape-suited Batman fan.
And now, 20 years after the Caped Crusader's insignia first began putting fear into the hearts of Hinsdale's super villains, satellite imagery of it can warn off even alien criminals to our planet.
Referring to the sky-high image as "Wayne Manor, Illinois," the mainstream technology blog Gizmodo said the swimming pool bat signal was the second-most-viewed post on its Sunday edition.
Even one of the incognito homeowners was surprised by all the bat attention. "I can't believe it -- our son sent (the link) to us. It is so strange."
Could they possibly have the Batmobile parked in their garage?
