Gilbert Arenas to Miss Two Games With Injury

Gilbert ArenasNo joke this time. Gilbert Arenas is on the shelf, again, and this time out he's not doing it for Nick Young's sake. Michael Lee of the Washington Post reports via Twitter that Gilbert Arenas will miss two games with a strained right ankle tendon. Lee reports Arenas was in a walking boot at practice and will "see a doctor."

That sound you hear so softly is the terrified noise of Wizards fans whispering, "Not again!" under their breath. Arenas' absence due to injury or suspension has submarined Wizards teams for nearly half a decade. And just as Arenas looked as if he was actually accepting his off-ball, catch-and-shoot role, now there's an injury that will cause him to miss two games. The best part? More time for Nick Young!

There may be an upside to this whole thing, though. With Arenas out, there's no chance of there being issues down the stretch of whose team this is. Arenas has been adamant that this team is John Wall's, but saying it and being willing to give up that big possession to let the youngster create when trailing by single digits in the fourth (unlikely to happen against Orlando). This will let Arenas really cement the team as his own, if only for a couple of games. The question, naturally, is what that doctor Arenas will see will say about Arenas' prospect of returning in the near future.

Maybe it's a tweak. It's probably a tweak. Maybe it's something more. But once again, Arenas is all over Wizards headlines, and none of it is for on-court performance or heroics.
