The NBA draft will be crossing the Hudson River, moving from the Theater at Madison Square Garden to the Prudential Center in Newark, the league announced Wednesday. The move will likely be temporary, necessitated by renovations to Madison Square Garden. "We are delighted to bring one of the NBA's premier events to Newark," said commissioner David Stern. "The Prudential Center is a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose arena that will be a great host for another exciting NBA Draft."
The league made the announcement before the Nets' season opener against the Pistons. The Nets are playing in the Prudential Center for two seasons while a potential move to Brooklyn is being sorted out.
The NBA draft has been held in New York City since 2001.
