After having a solid season in his successful return to the NFL, Bengals cornerback Adam Jones was placed on injured reserve. Jones suffered a neck injury (herniated disc) during Sunday's defeat against the Atlanta Falcons, 39-32. The Bengals signed free agent tight end J.P. Foschi, a four-year veteran from Georgia Tech, to fill Jones' roster spot.

Jones has been in the league for four seasons and after some trying times, he joined the Bengals prior to this season. He played in five games, with one start, and had 13 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, with one fumble return for a touchdown -- which he scored on Sunday in Atlanta.

The 6-3, 265-pound Foschi played in 15 games with 10 starts as a Bengal in 2009, his only season with the squad. Foschi posted career highs in catches (27), receiving yards (260) and touchdowns (two) and became a free agent this past March when his contract expired. He signed with the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 23, but was released on Sept. 5. Foschi has 33 career NFL games under his belt with 15 starts, 33 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

Foschi has gathered experience in the Bengals' system and should fit right away into an offensive unit that's struggling to find its identity.

The Bengals also waived tight end Daniel Coats, a fourth-year player from BYU. Coats was a member of the Bengals since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played in this season's first six games on special teams.
