Veteran St. Louis running back Steven Jackson's status for Sunday's game against Carolina is up in the air after the team's leading rusher missed Wednesday's practice.

Jackson was held out Wednesday, two days after he had surgery on his left ring finger, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which said the operation included the insertion of two pins into the finger.

The injury was sustained Sunday when Jackson ran for 110 yards against Tampa Bay, the third consecutive game in which Jackson had cracked the 100-yard level and the game in which he passed Eric Dickerson as the Rams' all-time rushing leader.

Jackson continues to play after the injury.

"He didn't think it was a big deal,'' coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday when talking about the Jackson injury. "He kept playing. Hopefully he'll be able to play this week. We'll know more after he gets through it.

"He's just a warrior. He goes out and plays, and we find out later there's a crack in there.''
