Valle was attempting to present Kentucky Senate candidate and tea party favorite Paul with a fake "Employee of the Month" award as part of MoveOn.org's RepubliCorp initiative when she was wrestled down and briefly stomped on by Profitt. (For a full account of the incident, read more at Politics Daily.)
Here is the video of the incident:
In case you missed the action on the Rand Paul campaign trail, here is a quick cheat sheet to get you up to speed.
Background:
Valle, 23, is a Columbia University graduate and MoveOn.org liberal activist. She was hired on a three-week contract by MoveOn.org to work on the Kentucky RepubliCorp initiative, an awareness campaign based on a mock business -- known as RepubliCorp -- that aims to demonstrate what MoveOn.org believes is a "cozy relationship between corporate America and the GOP."
Profitt is a former Paul campaign volunteer and county coordinator from Bourbon County, Ky. A recent advertisement in the Kentucky Herald Leader touted his endorsement of Paul for the U.S. Senate.
Take on the incident:
Valle describes the incident: "My memory of them is sort of that of a traumatized person. I think it was my head. My head is in a lot of pain today; my neck is kind of kinked. But I distinctly remember a blow to my head."
Profitt did eventually admit to stomping on Valle, but said that the incident as portrayed in the footage is not as bad as it looks.
Apologies and legal action:
Valle does plan to take legal action against Profitt. "It is very important that people be held responsible," she said.
Profitt did apologize for the incident, if not with a small qualification. "I'm sorry it came to that, and I apologize if it appeared overly forceful, but I was concerned about Rand's safety," he told The Associated Press.
Speaking of apologies, Profitt is looking for one himself. "I don't think it's that big of a deal," Profitt said, according to Gawker. "I would like for her to apologize to me, to be honest with you."
