Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was able to start Sunday's game against the Patriots despite an ankle injury that had him hobbling most of the week. But he wasn't able to finish -- and it had nothing to do with his ankle.Favre took a brutal shot to the chin from Patriots defensive tackle Myron Pryor midway through the fourth quarter, and although he briefly tried to stand back up and stay in the game, he instead had to be helped off the field and was then taken into the locker room on a cart while a trainer held gauze on his chin.
The Vikings announced that Favre had a laceration -- he received eight stitches after being carted off. Favre did participate in the postgame press conference and hinted that he plans to play next week.
"I got hit very hard," Favre said. "I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I remember everything, unfortunately. But I'll be fine."
The Vikings host Arizona in Week 9.
Minnesota was deep in New England territory when Favre was replaced by Tarvaris Jackson, and Jackson threw a 1-yard touchdown pass on his first play. We're likely in for another week of speculation that Jackson could replace Favre in the starting lineup, and end Favre's NFL record streak for consecutive games started.
The Patriots held on to win the game, 28-18.
