We told you it would happen, and sure enough, it came true. The Reno Bighorns took Nick Fazekas with the first overall pick in the NBA D-League Draft Monday night, after Scott Schroeder reported the same would occur earlier Monday. Fazekas spent only 28 games in the D-League in 2007-2008, averaging 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game before the Clippers called him up, only to eventually set him free. After two years in Europe he returns at the still prime age of 25. Alongside returning players Marcus Landry and Patrick Ewing, Jr. Reno should be in a position to push for the playoffs under first-year head coach Eric Musselman.
Fazekas is also the natural pick having gone to Nevada for school. He instantly puts interest in the club locally, and was one of the top players in the draft pool. A solid pick for the Bighorns.
