Knicks-Magic Postponed Due to Asbestos at Madison Square Garden
A makeup date has not yet been scheduled. The Knicks will work with the city of New York and independent experts to evaluate the situation and determine how to remedy it. "As the safety of our customers and employees are our top priority," the team's statement states, "we will not reopen the Garden until we are absolutely assured the Arena is safe."
Ticketholders for Tuesday's game are advised to hold onto their tickets until a makeup date is announced.
It's not yet known if any other games will be rescheduled. The Knicks play in Chicago on Thursday before returning to New York for games Friday against the Washington Wizards and Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers. If Madison Square Garden has not yet been cleared by the weekend, the Knicks and the NBA may consider playing the games at a different venue rather than rescheduling for later in the season.
This is the second time in two weeks the Magic have prepared for a game that wasn't played, the first being a preseason game against the Miami Heat in Tampa that was canceled and not rescheduled due to a slippery floor.
Update: The Magic and Knicks have rescheduled the game for March 28.
