Pitcher Brad Penny is engaged to "Dancing With the Stars" dancer Karina Smirnoff, according to a report by People Magazine.Smirnoff, 32, who was recently voted off the show with partner Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, began dating the right-hander in October 2009, and, according to the People report, got engaged to Penny on Oct. 4 of this year, the day after the regular season concluded.
Penny, also 32, has pitched for the Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals during his 11-year big-league career. Playing for the Cardinals this year, he was limited to just nine starts, his last coming on May 21 because of a back injury.
He was introduced to Smirnoff via UFC fighter Chuck Liddell, according to the People report, though he is no stranger to the Hollywood spotlight having been rumored to date actresses Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku.
Penny enters the winter as a free agent, and will be looking for a new team for the 2011 season.
