Suh Extra PointRookie defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is already making an impact for the Detroit Lions, and is a runaway favorite to be the NFC's defensive rookie of the year. He's a disruptive force along their line, and along with making an impact by stuffing the run and getting to the quarterback, he's also intercepted a pass and scored a touchdown through his first seven games.

On Sunday against the New York Jets he had to be used in an entirely different type of role: as a kicker.

After the team's regular kicker, Jason Hanson, was injured on a field goal attempt that resulted in a roughing the kicker penalty against the Jets, Matthew Stafford scored on a one-yard touchdown run to give the Lions a 13-10 lead. With Hanson injured, the Lions turned to their 307-pound tackle. Unfortunately for the Lions, his attempt hit the upright.

Some position players to attempt -- and successfully convert -- kicks in recent years: Wes Welker made an extra point Sunday for New England, and while a member of the Miami Dolphins, kicked a field goal and an extra point during the 2004 season. while Chad Ochocinco made an extra point in a preseason game for the Bengals in 2009. During the 2005 season then-Patriots quarterback Doug Flutie converted a drop kick during a Week 17 game.
