Clinton: Not All Americans Wear Bikinis and Wrestle
"If you look at American TV as much of the rest of the world does, you would think we all went around wrestling and wearing bikinis," she told the comedy Australian team of Hamish and Andy in an interview this week at the University of Melbourne.
"I mean, that's what you would think we spend our entire day doing," the former first lady said, laughing.
A transcript of the humorous exchange is posted on the Department of State's website.
America's top diplomat also detailed the high-stakes negotiations between herself and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, over what to have for dinner.
"If he says to me, 'Oh, I don't care; you choose,' I know that's a really bad answer, because then I'm stuck with the responsibility," Clinton said. "So I will come back and I'll say, 'All right. Well, so how do you feel about Chinese or Mexican or Italian?' And if he says a second time, 'I really, really don't care,' then I will go choose."
Keeping up the humorous tone, Clinton profusely thanked the comedians for their diplomatic gift to her: a very old bag of gravy-flavored crisps -- or potato chips, as Americans call them.
"I have people on my delegation who will actually eat this," she said. "Oh yes. Because they'll eat anything."
