I'll start with what we know for certain: Chris Kaman will miss the next 2-3 weeks with an ankle sprain. Of course it's not advised to drop Kaman, but what I would suggest is that you take a look at DeAndre Jordan. I had him as one of my sleepers last season for this very reason. Kaman is typically prone to injury, having played fewer than 57 games in two of the last three seasons. Jordan is still raw, and will likely remain "raw" his entire career, but he does provide some nice value in blocks, FG% and rebounds. His career per-36 numbers are impressive: 10.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 62.6 FG%. He's easily an add in all formats while Kaman is out, though I wouldn't expect nightly double-doubles. Again, his value comes by way of big-man stats. With the injuries piling up in Los Angeles he might find a way to approach those per-36 numbers of his. Just temper your expectations in the scoring category.
OTHER NEWS AND NOTES
- Brandon Roy is going to give his owners a reason to quit playing fantasy basketball altogether. He once again is suffering from soreness in his knee. This time it's his left knee. Last season he had surgery on his right night, just a year after having surgery on his left one. I think he's alternating knees from year-to-year. Whatever makes him happy. This injury, however, has Roy concerned. He told The Oregonian that he was "concerned" with what was going on inside his knee. He's already had it drained twice this season and is seeking a second opinion. Anytime you hear a player who is no stranger to knee surgery tell the media that he is concerned about his knee you have to take pause. We don't know what will happen -- another surgery? -- but it's worth taking a look at Wesley Matthews as a handcuff option at this point.
- Monta Ellis plans on playing Wednesday night against the Knicks. This should be a fun one, so make sure he's in your lineup.
- Eric Gordon is suffering from a bone bruise in his left shoulder and remains questionable for Wednesday night after sitting out on Tuesday. Gordon is in line to get a serious bump in value with both Baron Davis and Kaman out. The Clips are going to rely on Gordon and Blake Griffin to carry the load early on. Hopefully Gordon will get back on the court Wednesday and give his owners a little gift.
- Luke Ridnour will miss the next few games with a hamstring injury. With Jonny Flynn also out you can expect to see more of Sebastian Telfair, for better or worse. Telfair played 39 minutes on Tuesday, scoring 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and dishing out nine assists. I wouldn't trust him in a standard 12-team league, but deeper leagues might want to take a one-week flier on him.
- Paul Millsap went off on Tuesday, scoring a career-best 46 points on a highly efficient 19-of-28 shooting from the floor. I'm a huge Millsap fan and advocated you drafting him in the 5th round throughout the summer, but I'll admit that I didn't see him putting up these kind of numbers. I wouldn't advise "selling high" on Millsap, though you might want to fish around. He's going to have a great season, but could you talk a David Lee or Chris Bosh owner into swapping players? Maybe. But would you want to swap players at this point? It's looking more and more like you should hang onto Millsap.
- Tyler Hansbrough scored 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds in 29 minutes on Tuesday night against the Nuggets. Granted, this was a blowout victory for the Pacers, but Hansbrough outplayed Josh McRoberts in this one and could have earned himself more minutes. I keep waiting for one of these two guys to step up and provide fantasy-worthy numbers, and a small part of me thinks that in time it might be Hansbrough. Keep an eye on him.
- Austin Daye doesn't like you. Not after you sat him this week only to see him score 15 points in 22 minutes on Tuesday night. Daye was a highly efficient 4-of-5 shooting from the floor, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He also added eight rebounds, a steal and a block. Sure the Pistons are just awful this year, but you might want to hold onto their young guys. It's only a matter of time before they realize that developing Daye and Greg Monroe is their number one priority this season.
- Antawn Jamison returned to action against the Nets on Tuesday night after sitting out last week with a sore knee. He had a nice game, scoring 15 points, hitting three treys, grabbing eight boards and adding a steal in 28 minutes. We're not seeing the best of Jamison, but at this point you'll take what you can get. He's been dropped in many leagues, so go make sure that he's still not available in yours.
