Denzel Washington Tells Letterman About Wife Getting Tackled at UFL Game

In 2006, after a standout career at Morehouse College, running back J.D. Washington signed as an undrafted free agent with the St. Louis Rams. He landed on the practice squad for a couple years, but in 2009, he was drafted by the UFL's California Redwoods. And this season he plays for the Sacramento Mountain Lions.

It's one thing to read about former NFL greats now plying their trade in a lesser league. Ahman Green, Daunte Culpepper and Jeff Garcia are all examples. But it's rare that you hear about an NFL practice squadder ending up in the UFL. Frankly, it's expected.

But this is different: J.D.'s father is Denzel Washington. And dad and mom were on the sidelines at a recent game because, well, that's what parents do. Except for the part about a player taking mom out on as J.D. scored a touchdown.

Luckily, Denzel was on "The Late Show" with David Letterman to take us through the play, frame by (painstaking, hilarious) frame.

Denzel was way too excited about seeing his wife trampled. Good news, though: "She jumped up faster than the guy did."
