Jose Canseco has, as they say, hit a rough patch. The former Oakland A's Rookie of the Year and World Series champion retired in 2001 after a 17-year career. Four years later he wrote a book about steroids in baseball and named names. In an effort to stay relevant -- and pay the bills -- Canseco has played in the independent league, tried his hand at mixed-martial arts and boxing, and has been the subject of an A&E documentary about his battle with steroid abuse.
Through it all, Canseco has somehow avoided rock bottom ... until now.
In September, he took to Twitter seeking legal advice (his landlord evicted him and kept the "chandaleers", too). And he used Twitter again Wednesday to get the word out: Jose wants to talk to YOU -- about whatever -- and here's the number to call. (Fine print: the call will cost you, but the silver lining -- other than getting Canseco on the horn -- is that half goes to charity!)
UPDATE: FanHouse's Tom Lorenzo sends along the following email: "I just called it -- it's his 'fan' line. I tried to create an account to talk to him but hung up after they asked me for my credit card number. Well played, Mr. Canseco."
Well played, indeed.

In related news: Kenny Powers is not impressed.
