If you think the Minnesota Vikings all got on the same page during their 27-24 come-from-behind victory on Sunday, and that the players now like and respect coach Brad Childress, think again. In reality, Childress's job still appears to be in jeopardy, and the stories that Childress's players don't particularly like him are continuing to pile up.
The latest story comes from Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times, who has written about the Vikings for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Jensen quotes multiple players as ripping into Childress, even after the win over the Cardinals.
"We know that Childress doesn't have our backs, so why should we have his?" one player said. "We're playing for us, and we're winning despite him."
Another team source told Jensen, "He has absolutely no people skills."
"As much as I hate Childress. I will keep playing."
- Unnamed Viking And a player said that Childress' decision to publicly criticize Brett Favre at a postgame press conference enraged some in the locker room.
"For a lot of guys, that was a turning point," one player said.
And then there are the reports that Percy Harvin got into a heated discussion with Childress -- and all the players said they supported Harvin and were glad he went after the coach.
Basically, the Vikings are playing for themselves, and not for their coach.
"As much as I hate Childress," another player told Jensen, "I will keep playing."
And that's what passes for an endorsement of Childress in the Vikings' locker room.
