Yao Ming, who has missed a week due to a bruised ankle, will sit out two additional weeks, the Rockets have announced.Yao missed the entire 2009-10 season, and continued concerns about his feet have led to strict minutes limitations for the center this year. Yao has only been able to play five games for a total of 91 minutes in Houston's early schedule.
The Rockets are 3-9 on the season, and 1-4 in games where Yao played. Brad Miller has started five games in Yao's place; Chuck Hayes and Jordan Hill have also filled in at center. The Rockets have other injury problems as well, with Aaron Brooks currently nursing an ankle sprain and Kyle Lowry having just come back from a brief absence this week.
Yao will be an unrestricted free agent in July 2011. Just 30 years old, it's unclear if he'll ever be healthy enough to be a reliable NBA starting center. When he's on the court, he's one of the best pivots in the game. Unfortunately for Yao and Houston, he just can't seem to stay healthy these days.
