(By the way, it didn't take long for CBS's Dan Fouts to jokingly proclaim that Lechler should be penalized "five yards for littering." Given how the officials were flagging just about everything else, I don't think anybody would have been surprised had it actually come to that.)
I'm not sure if this is customarily part of Lechler's pre-snap routine, but he had the smelling salts in hand prior to each punt against the Steelers Sunday.
In related news: Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell could have used some smelling salts before head coach Tom Cable mercifully removed him from the game in the third quarter.
In case you're wondering: Lechler punted eight times Sunday and averaged 40.5 yards per kick.
