Richard SeymourThe NFL has fined Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour $25,000 on Monday for smacking Steelers quarterback Ben Roethsliberger and knocking him down during Pittsburgh's 35-3 win over the Raiders, according to news reports.

The amount of the fine and lack of other disciplinary action may not sit well with the Steelers' James Harrison, who had called for a harsh fine and/or suspension. Harrison has been the target of hefty league-imposed fines in the NFL's crack-down on helmet-to-helmet hits.

However, there may have been something of a mitigating factor in the NFL's decision because Roethlisberger tapped Seymour on the shoulder before the Raiders player wheeled around and decked him with an open-handed jab to the face.

Roethlisberger said after the game he was stunned by Seymour's action. He said he was trying to get down the field to celebrate with teammates after throwing a touchdown pass when he tried to brush past Seymour.
