Isabella Rossellini Weirded Out by Duck Sex

(Nov. 23) -- Hollywood actress Isabella Rossellini has no qualms about exploring the bizarre sex lives of animals on camera, but even she's weirded out by the strange exchange between ducks.

Rossellini writes, produces and stars in the offbeat viral series "Green Porno: Seduce Me," in which she dresses up in animal costumes and acts out intimate intraspecies sexual encounters while surrounded by related props, puppets and construction paper co-stars.

Italian actress Isabella Rossellini stars in "Green Porno," a series about the sexual life and techniques of animals. Rossellini plays the animals in 18 one-minute scenes.

Since launching her experimental short-film series in 2008, Rossellini has explored the carnal urges of bedbugs, whales, snails and flies, but she told AOL News that no mating ritual was more bizarre than the one between ducks, who have "corkscrew penises" and are downright frisky.

Although Rossellini said male ducks are quite aggressive when it comes to luring in a partner for sex, it's the female duck who gets the last laugh.

"The duck vagina is very complex," Rossellini explained. "I was surprised to learn that the female duck can direct the male's penis to do whatever she wants. If she doesn't want to get pregnant, she blocks it. It's her choice."

Though she's intrigued by most animal behavior, Rossellini said animals that are asexual, transsexual or hermaphrodites tend to be especially interesting.

She can speak from experience, too, since she once dressed up as an earthworm for a "Green Porno" episode about the hermaphrodite's lifestyle.

Rossellini said that particular costume -- made out of many different pieces and segments -- was the hardest get-up she's ever had to crawl into for the series because it was hot and extremely binding.

"It was 35 feet long and took away my arms. I couldn't move anything and I kept forgetting I had no arms. It was terribly uncomfortable, and it took me by surprise because it was a pretty easy costume to make," she recalled. "I didn't expect it to be that way."

Most of the time, Rossellini said she sports some sort of skin-tight leotard and a colorful headpiece for the skits, though even then she has to be careful because the props are mostly made out of paper.

"They're very fragile and hard to get into. Sometimes I get tangled up and they come apart, so I have to move very slowly."

With patience, however, Rossellini said she's been able to successfully simulate sex between many species and hopes her zany work is understood by viewers.

" 'Green Porno' is meant to be funny and informational. If you laugh and learn something from it, then you get the point. Everyone is interested in sex, so that's why I went there," she explained.

Rossellini said she was always interested in animals as a kid and has been taking biology classes throughout her life to feed her curiosity about wildlife behavior.

She said reading related textbooks helps her nail down the scientific mating lingo, which she then breaks down into much simpler terms for her short episodes.

Since creating "Green Porno," Rossellini said she's been contacted by several scientists who've praised her wacky, entertaining portrayal of animal sex lives.

Many of those scientists are now casual consultants for her show, so whenever she needs clarification on wildlife mating rituals, she turns to the experts.

"It's a lot easier now than at the beginning, when it was just me and the biology books," she said with a chuckle.

"The costumes take months to make. We look at pictures of animals and try to match them accordingly. Then there's the execution, which takes a long time. Every episode is story-boarded, so there's no improvisation. Every set, gesture and movement is drawn and planned out before filming."

It's a good thing she has help, too, because conceptualizing the episodes, story-boarding each one and making the costumes by hand takes up most of her time.

In the future, Rossellini said she plans to continue exploring a wide range of animals to keep the show diverse and interesting.

In her latest set of two-minute episodes -- debuting Tuesday on sundancechannel.com/greenporno -- Rossellini delves into homosexual encounters between animals, how male seahorses get pregnant and the crazy, "anything goes" sex lives of dolphins, who practice every type of fornication imaginable -- even blowhole sex.

Of course, Rossellini -- who, as a reminder, is "Casablanca" screen legend Ingrid Bergman's daughter -- is dressed in full costume, making quite a splash in her fin and replica dolphin penis.

Clearly, the Italian actress and animal lover will go to great lengths to make us laugh and teach us a little something about the wild kingdom.
